SAN DIEGO, CA---LatinoBeat, a leading provider of Latino-oriented electronic news and features, has endorsed Proposition 227, the "English for the Children" initiative against bilingual education in California. The endorsement editorial was published after months of heavy focus on the subject of bilingual education in the news stories distributed by LatinoBeat, and emphasized the tremendous failure of the current system, despite years of effort and billions of dollars of extra spending.

The closing paragraph of the editorial read: "After three decades of ivory-tower academicians using children for their experiments, there is no valid reason to allow them to continue their costly failure. It's time the voters take control and pass the model proposed in Proposition 227. In the end it will meet the needs of all 1.3 million English learners."

Chairman Ron Unz praised LatinoBeat for its willingness to take a stand on Proposition 227. "Since our campaign began focusing media scrutiny on California's disastrous 30-year experiment with native-language instruction, more and more editorial writers and columnists have finally begun to condemn the failed status quo
, but few have yet been willing to endorse Proposition 227, which represents the only means of change. The overwhelming majority of children in bilingual programs are Latino, and the LatinoBeat editorial may finally crack this wall of guilty silence on the part of so many."

The editorial is available on the LatinoBeat webpage, located at www.latinobeat.net.
