Grant goes to bilingual project

Rep. Cal Dooley, D-Hanford, has announced that Fresno Pacific Graduate School has been awarded a $ 172,575 grant for Project VOICE (Valuing and Owning Identity through Collaboration and Excellence).

The project will identify, recruit and support Spanish- and Hmong-speaking instructional aides as they complete their degrees or teach in local schools.

Project VOICE involves seven local school districts benefiting from the enhanced bilingual instruction.

Prudential manager honored

Nat DiBuduo Jr. of Fresno, an executive manager at Prudential Private Asset Management Group, has received a Prudential Community Champions Award of $ 1,000 for the Friends of the Fresno District Fair, 21st District Agricultural Association.

The Prudential Community Champions Awards program, administered by the company’s Local Initiatives Division, is recognizing 636 Prudential employees and retirees who excel in volunteer commitment, leadership, and service in their communities. The Prudential Foundation is providing $ 518,000 in grants to the organizations in which these associates volunteer.

As a volunteer, DiBuduo has served in various capacities including president of the board of directors and chairman of the Public Relations Committee.

Rauscher gets United Way post

Carol Rauscher has been appointed chief professional officer for the New United Way of Fresno County.

Rauscher will assume her new role today. She comes to the New United Way from a position as director of executive development and design for the National Academy of Voluntarism at United Way of America in Alexandria, Va.

Restaurant aids police programs

J.J.’s Restaurant, 5689 E. Kings Canyon Road in Fresno, recently held a barbecue to benefit the Fresno Police Activities League.

The employees raised about $ 2,000 for the league’s local programs.

Shelter needs kitten food

The California Feline Foundation’s no-kill shelter in Fresno needs kitten food donations.

The shelter has been inundated with hundreds of kittens over the summer and is running low on dry kitten food.

Donations can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the shelter, 550 N. Van Ness Ave., or donors can call 233-8554.
