WSJ: "How to Speak the GOP's Language" Monday, February 28, 2000. Dear Friends, Q: What educational policy has the support of 85% of Republicans, 70% of Democrats, and landslide majorities across all ethnic, ideological, and geographical lines? A: Requiring our public schools to teach English to all schoolchildren. As I argue in the WSJ op-ed below, if McCain (whom I have endorsed) were to put his political weight behind this proposal, which has a realistic prospect of DOUBLING the test scores of immigrant students in just a few years, he will gain the ever-lasting gratitude of a generation of immigrants and probably win the presidential primary and general election. All that is requiring is a huge dose of the fabled John McCain political courage... Sincerely. Ron Unz, Chairman
