January 8, 1998. SACRAMENTO, CA---State Senator Quentin Kopp (I-San Francisco) endorsed the "English for the Children" initiative against "bilingual education" at a Sacramento news conference with Ron Unz, the initiative chairman. Sen. Kopp, a leading political figure from the San Francisco Bay Area, is a long-time political independent. Chairman Ron Unz praised Sen. Kopp for his support for an initiative so important to the future of California's large immigrant population. "While much of the top leadership of both the Democratic and Republican parties are ducking the issue of whether or not children should be taught English in California schools, Sen. Kopp has once again shown his independence of mind and willingness to take a stand. More and more Californians are following Sen. Kopp in supporting policies which benefit our entire state regardless of party label. We are very proud to have his strong support." |
