I am a student of Center of Employment Training in Indio. I read your article about the plan to end bilingual education in California. I think it is very important that the immigrant community do something to resolve this problem, but the question is what and whent they are going to do it, and how? Whent I whent to school since 7-11 grade, I had bilingual classes. It was very hard for me to graduate from high school, because I didn't learn how to write and speak english the right way. It was hard for me to pass the essay test that was required from the hight school to be able to graduate. I had to write journals many times during my senior year so I could be able to pass the test. Finally after all the effort and days without sleeping I passed the test and graduated from high school in 1993. In spite of graduating, it was not easy for me to do it. It was harder for me, and I now think that those four years of bilingual classes I had were just a waste of time. If all the schools had English classes and no bilingual anymore, the students will learn how to speak and write English the right way much sooner. Sincerly Yours , Nidia Hernandez
