My Story Joseph T. Kos, October 03, 1997 As the son of immigrant Polish parents, I spoke only Polish when I was entered into first grade. Other students spoke only Italian, German or Jewish. We were all immersed immediately in English with no help in bilingual education. I do not recall any difficulty, along with the others, in acquiring proficiency in English. I went on to achieve a degree in Mechanical Engineering and can attest to the benefits of being taught in English only. |
