To the Editor: I am writing to you in regards to the article about "back plan to end bilingual education." As an immigrant and a resident of California, I want to bring up my opinion to you and so of my co-workers that I asked about this issue. We arrived to a consensus that the termination of the bilingual education could be the best benefit for our children's education. My gathered information reflects that there are more disadvantages on having this class on our school teaching system. My experience itself could be good example of how helpful it is to have the English language in your school teaching system. As I migrated to the United States, I realized and understood the concept of why we are using English as our means of instruction. For seven months of staying here, I was able to find a job and communicate to other people effectively. Kids can learn so fast. I dont believe that students that are in bilingual classes will have a hard time to cope with their classes; if ever, they will be placed in the non-bilingual class. This could be their chance to interact and communicate in one language in which all of them understand. Truly yours, Rita Ritchie A. Nogra |
