To the Editor:

This letter is regarding the articles in your newspaper about BILINGUAL EDUCATION. You ask if I support efforts to dismantle the state's bilingual education system. Yes, I do,

Since I came to the United States one of my goals has been to learn English well. A few years ago, I went to the College of the Desert, to take English classes. After awhile I thought that I had learned sufficient English so I stopped. Later I wanted to get a better job, but I coudn't because my English skills weren't good enough to find a good job.

I decided to improve my English skills for different reasons; to get a better job; to have better communication skills, and the most important, is to help my daughter with her homework.

Since my daughter started kindergarten, I enrolled in English classes only. Now she is in level three, she speaks, reads, and write perfect English, and she was the first winner of the Palm Desert Essay contest,

I encourage the Hispanic families to support the proposal TO END THE BILINGUAL EDUCATION, and enroll their children in English classes only. It could be a little hard at first, but I'am sure our children will have very good English skills and a better future,

I hope more people support THE PLAN TO END BILINGUAL EDUCATION.

Truly yours,
Gloria Perez
