I must be a genius
MAN_SMILING
I must be a genius.I arrived in America in 1970 at Miami on the month of march.I immediately was trasported to Perth Amboy New Jersey were some relatives awaited for me,I was 12 yrs old. When I started school I knew nothing of english could not speak it nor write it or understand. Whithin 8 months I could understand my teacher Mrs Bardin of 6th grade. Back then the solution to immigrants was simple ,straight forward inexpensive.Once a day for one and one half hours myself and the rest of my friends that did not speak english would attend Mrs Velez's class to learn the English language, we progressed dilingently and with purpose on our own since our parents or relatives did not speak the language. I was born in Cuba in 1957 and so were my friends also born in Cuba. Our greatest pride and honor came when we could help our relatives communicate with the English speaking world outside our doors. The hispanic organizations are being fooled into believing some thing that is not true,or is it they are not really needed, they dont speak for me. I guess the mexicans are stupid and the cubans are not. Hispanisc are not a people.......they are of different bacgrounds, racially, economicaly, culturally and politically....the federal goverment has decided to ignore this fact and treat them like a homogenous entity....to pursue their own politically charged agenda and ambitions. There lies the problem at the core, they want them needing........to manipulate. Latino chldren have no handicap in learning other than the ones they and their parents let the politicians impose on them. The word hispanic is aborrent to me ,it lumps many people together that dont belong together. We dont need bilingual education I never had it I am an engineer, make 100k a year.....I never had it, nobody told me I was stupid and that I couldnt learn other than in my own original language, there were no liimitatios inposed on me by either the system or my relatives they expected me to succeed and I was glad to rise to the challenge and I did so without bilingual education. Give the children the chance and they will surprise you....but dont tell them they can not because they are different and inferior, thats what bilingual education does.....tells them they cant cut it.....how can you rise to anything like that.Ther is no problem there never was until the politicians and the interest groups created it. Thats my story and my opinion. Any words spelled wrong is because I cant typr worht a dam ......by the way that first year in school when I could not speak english,I had straight As in spelling......in English.
