Boston School Committee Chairman Felix Arroyo requested a state audit of a small, innovative offshoot of English High School yesterday for possible misuse of public funds.
Arroyo’s call came just days after the School Department announced it was closing the year-old program, the Multicultural Middle College High School, in what appeared to be a turf battle over bilingual education.
Arroyo – whose wife serves as the schools’ bilingual coordinator – maintained the multicultural school never received official authorization.
However, the school has a contract with Roxbury Community College.
Spokesman Alan Safran said the state Department of Education auditor had not received Arroyo’s request.
